How do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?

I have a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L that needs a new thermostat, and I don't know anyone that can help me, so I want to do it myself. Any help would be appreciated, I know nothing about trucks - thanks! How do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?If you follow the upper radiator hose to the engine, you will see where the hose connects to the thermostat housing, which is a flange held to the engine by two bolts. Soak these bolts with penetrating oil for a day or two before starting the job, just to be safe, they might be seized up. Have a large drain pan under the engine before you start, because engine coolant will spill. You will probably want to wear rubber gloves when doing this job, as coolant will be spilling and it's a little nasty.

First, loosen radiator cap, then remove it. Unclamp the radiator hose from the thermostat housing, and then twist and pull off the hose. You might need channelock pliers to break the hose loose from the housing flange, many times it is stuck on there good. Be prepared for coolant to spill when the hose comes off, this is where your drain pan comes to the rescue. Now tie the loose end of the radiator hose out of the way, and then remove the two bolts holding the housing to the engine ( 9/16 or 14mm wrench size ).

You will likely see ground wires attached to these bolts, if you break them, be sure to repair them afterwards, or you will have issues with the electrics of the vehicle.

Once the bolts are out, then pull the housing off the engine, you may need to use a large screwdriver for leverage to pop it off. A little more coolant spills at this time.

Remove thermostat from engine, and then clean all traces of old gasket material from the sealing surfaces of the thermostat housing and the engine. Use a razor scraper to do this, which can be bought very cheaply at an auto parts store. Use care when scraping, do not gouge or nick the metal. For stubborn gasket material, spray on some gasket remover spray and let it soak for a while. Use rags to clean and dry off the surfaces.

Once that is done, place the thermostat on the engine with the spring end DOWN. Make sure the thermostat is positioned properly in the recessed area of the engine opening. Then apply the new gasket (which came with the new thermostat) onto the sealing area of the engine. Coat both sides of the gasket with a very thin layer of silicone sealer made for this, available at the auto parts store, before you install it. Then position the thermostat housing on top, and install the two bolts, snug them both down first, then tighten them both a little at a time. This is to ensure that the cover gets tightened down evenly to avoid leaks. Don't forget to put the ground wires back on to those bolts. Then re-clamp the hose on to the cover. Top up the cooling system slowly until it is full, use a 50/50 coolant-water mix, don't just add plain water because it will weaken the strength of your coolant. Then put the rad cap back on, making sure the arrow is pointing to the overflow hose (important).

Start the engine, and let it run until it is at operating temperature. In the meantime, ensure that the thermostat cover is not leaking. When the upper radiator hose is hot, that means the engine is warmed up and that the thermostat is now open, allowing coolant to flow into the radiator.

Shut the engine off, and let it cool off for about 20 minutes or so, then carefully remove rad cap, and top off radiator as required. Top off overflow bottle if required.

Good luck with this! If you need any more info, feel free to ask!How do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?On a cold engine, loosen the radiator petcock at the bottom of the radiator. Allow about 2 quarts of fluid to drain into a pan or bucket, then close it. Follow the upper radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. This is the thermostat housing, it is held in place by two bolts, one is a stud with a ground wire on it attached with a nut. With the nut and two bolts removed, remove the housing. Inside you will see the thermostat, note how it is positioned so you don't put the new one in backwards. Remove all the old gasket material and assemble with a new gasket and tighten bolts securely, refill the radiator and run engine until the thermostat opens and top off the fluid reservoir to the proper level. Good LuckHow do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?You will have to consult with NASA, this is a real complicated problem! (not really). Ask at the parts store, read an open manual there. Do yourself a favor and don't use Dex-Cool coolant, Flush system out and use Mercedes Benz coolant. Read the GM litigation web-site about troubled GM owners!! The thermostat housing can usually be found at the opposite end of the upper radiator hose. The housing usually has 2 screws. Good Luck!!How do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?Easy easy. On top of the engine where the radiator hose comes out you need to remove the aluminum piece it is connected to. Two bolts 13 or 14mm I believe, are all that holds it on. You may have to pry a little to get it off. underneath of that there is the thermostat. You might be able to get away with re using the old gasket if you seal it up with some silicone. How do I change the thermostat on a 1992 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L?http://www.automedia.com/Keep_Your_Eye_o

How do I change the thermostat on my car?

Is it something that I could do myself (I am pretty good with cars, as is my husband) or should I take it to the shop and have them do it?

It's a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus if that mattersHow do I change the thermostat on my car?It depends on the car, but mine takes me about 2 minutes to do.

Usually it's a really simple procedure.

What size motor is it?How do I change the thermostat on my car?If you can change your oil, you can change a thermostat. $10 and you're done. How do I change the thermostat on my car?take it in to a shop. chrysler thermosta housings are made plastic. and a tendacy to brake when removing it. if all goes ok parts and labor should around $150.00 at most. How do I change the thermostat on my car?$150!!!!???? no way!

Its easy enough, its in a housing where the hose from the radiator meets the engine block,

Disconnect the hose from this housing. (coolant will piss out, never worry.)

Undo the bolts (usually about 3) on the housing that hose came out of.

It should come off/apart exposing the old thermostat, tap or twist it out.

Flush the engine and radiator with water, and drain out as much as possible by removing as many hose connections as u can see.

Replace new thermostat into housing, (pointy end toward engine) and re-assemble housing, making sure all mating faces are clean and smooth for a good seal!

    Re-connect all hoses.

Replace new coolant mixture into the coolant tank, It will only let u put in about half, as the thermostat it cold/closed and it cant circulate.

Run the engine, once the thermostat opens/warms, it will suddenly drag the coolant through the engine, top it up again and switch off when it gets too hot!!! repeat till the coolant is fully circulated and the level stabalises.

Mine took about 6 litres, depends on the car tho...How do I change the thermostat on my car?Varies from car to car, but most have the thermostat in the top radiator hose housing on the cylinder head.

To change it, you remove the housing, pull out the thermostat, clean out the inner housing, replace the thermostat using a new gasket or silicon sealer if you don't have a gasket, and replace the housing and top radiator hose.

Not a big job. If you're unsure get a copy of the auto manual from your local library just read and confirm.

How do you change the thermostat on a 1991 Cutlass Supreme?

this is a fairly simple repair,

first pop the hood and locate the upper radiator hose. follow that from the radiator too the engine. on most vehicles that is where the thermostat is located.

On older GM cars the thermostat is located under the radiator cap. make sure the engine is cool and take the cap off. its most likey under there. just pull it out and put the new one in.

IF its not under the cap (it should be), then it will be on the engine at the end of the upper radiator hose. there will be a housing that you must remove. it should he held in place by a few bolts. unbolt them and pull the housing off. the thermostat should be under there. just pull it out and replace it. when you put the housing back on put some RTV sealant on the housing surface so it will not leak.

whenever you do something with coolant be careful not to spill it. if you do make sure you clean it up asap so the neighborhood dogs and cats dont drink it.

There will be a small piece that bolts to the engine (usually three bolts) and attaches to the hose. Pull this off. pull out the old thermostat, and install your new one, making sure you have it right side up. Clean the old gasket material off of both the block and the thermostat housing and install a new gasket. Don't try to save $5 and use the old one, you will be sorry. Replace your housing and tighten the bolts. Top off your coolant reservoir with new antifreeze, and you are good to go! All parts should be readily available at any good auto parts store. This is a great project to start with if you don't know much about working on cars. If you want more comprehensive information, the auto parts store will have a repair manual specifically for your car for about $10. This will help with any other repairs, also. Good luck!

How do I change the thermostat on a 1995 oldsmobile achieva?

Drain off some coolant and locate where the thermostat housing is. All GM motors have the thermostat before the upper rad hose. Depending what type of motor you have, you have to access this housing. Most likely you have a 3.1L motor that requires some exhaust disassembly of lots of swivel sockets to access the right bolts to get the housing off and on. The thermostat housing is on the drivers side of the motor at the rear of the intake. I would suggest that if you have never done this, get someone with experience to help you or pay someone to do it.How do I change the thermostat on a 1995 oldsmobile achieva?Trace the top radiator hose to an aluminun looking housing and when ya get it off under there is the thermostat. What is it doing? Overheating or not getting hot? I believe around that year the htr. control unit could go bad if it has a thermometer for setting the temp. The one in the dash, that is.I have seen these go badAlso , if you start your car when its cold with the radiator cap off and let it run till it reaches 190-210 degrees the thermostat will open and if the fluid level drop down below the radiator hose you just need to add some antifreeze..Hope this helps

I buy one for every vehicle I own %26amp; have saved a lot of money. When you look up how to fix things you will know if you can do it or if you need a mechanic. Thermostat? No problem! Get the manual. How to change thermostat on my 89 C1500?Yeah dude buy a repair manual, it will save you a lot of time and trouble. For the time being, to replace the thermostat on a chevy small-block (I am assuming yours is a 5.7, but they are all the same) you will need to locate a large hose coming out of the top of the radiator and curving towards the center of the engine (called the upper radiator hose). It ends at about the middle of the front part of the intake manifold. Remove the hose at the engine (manifold) end. The fitting that you just removed the hose from is called the thermostat housing. There are two bolts holding it down. One of them will have a stud on the opposite end with a nut on it. Remove the nut and the wires underneath it (they are actually ground wires for the alternator, etc.) and then remove the bolts. The housing should then come off (it may be stuck so you may have to pull hard to get it off). Underneath the housing is the thermostat (which may also be stuck and can be removed with pliers because it does not have to be saved). There might be some fragments of the old gasket stuck on to the bottom of the thermostat housing or on the intake manifold where the housing bolts on. This should be removed with a putty knife. Replace the thermostat and put on the new gasket and reassemble everything.

Change thermostat on 89 toyota corolla gts?

Someone tell me the procedures on changing the thermostat on an 89 toyota corolla and is it hard. I am mechanically inclined.

    Thanks for all the helpChange thermostat on 89 toyota corolla gts?It's located in a housing below and slightly behind the Distributor Cap. I've seen a lot worse ones to get at. It's a little easier if you unfasten the Distributor Cap, and lay it off towards the front of the engine (passenger side). You can leave the spark plug wires attached. Here's some instructions;

Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?

Also, if it's running hot, isn't this the first thing to try? What else might be the problem? Thanks. Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?It is entirely dependant on the year and engine as to the difficulty of the T-stat change out.

Well the first thing I would do is check your coolant level. Sorry,I am not meaning to be a wise guy by saying that but I have learned on this board to not forsake of take steps for granted.

After that make sure it holds coolant.

Check for obstructions froward of radiator.

Confirm electric fan operates and goes up to speed

If not electric the fan clutch should stop the blade from being turned by hand immediately when vehicle off

    Start and warm up.

Note flow going into pressurized recovery chamber.

while running, with glove, squeeze upper radiator hose slightly. You should be able to recognise flow activity inside it.

confirm that air is bled out of system.

BMW's typically use a finer resolution core to allow more radiator cooling capacity. The flip side to this is that they may clogg easier, especially along the bottom of the radiator. If there is a large amount of coolant going into the pressure recovery chamber via a 5/8 bypass hose there is a chance their could be a restriction in the radiator cores.

There is really no sense in flushing the unit on the vehicle. better to give it a good backflushing and look in the bottom with an inspection mirror. If there is still lots of sediment then take it to a radiator shop.

Check to see in coolant has been escaping via the weep hole of the water pump. If so then chances are the the pump is bad. Confirm that the drive belt is within spec of the driven water pump pully, and nothing slick has wound up on it.

Look at the hoses, as they will usually show evident marks where it is leaking.

Only at this point would I consider the T-stat. That is, if all other above has passed.

Not a part that sticks as often as one might think, unless additives were put in the system such as allumafil or stop leaks.

One thing about BMW's is that they are not very shy about coolant problems. They are usually %26quot;in your face%26quot; problems that can be seen

The newer BMW's are equipped with abs couplings that break quite readily. The parts department at BMW has an abundant supply of these and will love to sell you a couple.

    Bring

    Money

    With you

haha get it? As if you didn't already know.

That's about the best general guidance I can give on a 5 series without a year or engine. Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?most cars easy and cheap to do just follow top radiator hose back to top of motor remove hose and two bolts in housing and lift housing off scrape off old gasket replace new gasket and new thermostat about same on all cars some easy some not so much but al some what easy job here a few lick might help you do it but its easy might cost you 30 bucks thermostat like 15 gasket 10 and a jug of coolantIs it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?Changing the thermostat is not rocket science. But before doing so

check and be sure that the cooling system has no air bubbles inside, that the coolant level is OK, that there are no leaks and that the water pump is working normally. Spending money on unnecessary repairs sucks.

    To replace:

    a) Detach fan blade from water pump (you need special tools)

    b) Remove radiator fan shroud along with the fan blade from the front of the engine (if you want to make your removal of the thermostat more convenient to do)

    c) Detach the two hoses connected to the thermostat (remember to catch the coolant that drains out below).

    d) Detach the cable/wires connected to the thermostat

    e) Loosen the engine lifting hook at the left front side of the engine since it would block removal of the thermostat

    f) Remove and replace thermostat

    g) Re-install removed parts, add coolant and perform bleeding proper bleeding procedure to remove air inside cooling system.

Welcome to the DIY club!Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?Year buddy year. The 5 series goes all the way back to the 70's.Is it hard to change the thermostat on a 5 series BMW?My BMW did this same thing. It would -always- run at 3/4 if not 7/8 the temperature gauge... and stay there. I ran heavy oil in it 10W_40 or 20W-50 always to help, and it was cool because the engine used as little fuel as possible. No reason or anything for this, it also did this after i flushed my radiator myself. Then one day it just made the jump to ovrheat with my best friend at the time in the car. It blew a hose from pressure. She was stronger than i was, so she put the hose back on. Car drove fine, had blown head gasket and i sealed it and it ran fine again.

Is it ok not to use silicone when i change a thermostat gasket?

i just changed my gasket on my 91 jeep and i forgot to put silicone around the gasket.. do i have to do it all over?Is it ok not to use silicone when i change a thermostat gasket?I HATE silicone. i've pulled too much of it out of oil ports and other places it plugs things up. It does have its uses but engine parts aren't one of them. If you have cleaned the surfaces good you do not need any sealant. It didn't come out of the factory that way did it? I KNOW you used a new gasket so you shouldn't have any problems. I have been known to use alittle permatex tho. mostly just to hold the gasket while its being installed. The gasket should have come with self adhesive so you don't even need that these days.Is it ok not to use silicone when i change a thermostat gasket?if its not leaking leave it aloneIs it ok not to use silicone when i change a thermostat gasket? No matter what anyone tells you... just wait and see if it drips out. • How do you change a thermostat on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee?

Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of, or do you just remove the hose, unbolt the old one, bolt on the new one and reattach the hose? How do you change a thermostat on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee?thats pretty much all you do...just make sure you clean the area where the thermostat connects and make sure you use a new gasket or clean the old one goodHow do you change a thermostat on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee?i owned cherokee for 10 years %26amp; due to engine switched thermostat TWICE EVERY YEAR - crazy, but true %26amp; ran better.. reason was so ran better in cold %26amp; then hot weather. Soooooo, from all that I can tell you problems I had. First the dude who mentioned about air is smoking crackk. Also I found that gaskets are more problem than they are worth. Just use very good high temp tube of gasket gunk - yaknow the stuff you squeeze from tube and spread like frosting. Now make sure you let that stuff dry way longer than recommended, like 12- 24 hours would be good ( better safe than sorry). To help keep the coolant away from area where you are trying to seal I advise take apart first then when going to install jack up front to make coolant flow back away from thermostat. Also could just soak up with towel until area is dry. Now here is biggest problem - so very very easy to over tighten %26amp; break metal (cast aluminum) housing or under tighten %26amp; leaks. Check for torque recommendation (library or parts store if you dont know) %26amp; slowly do each bolt as close to same time as possible (i.e. one turn on one bolt then one turn on other). Whatever the torque setting is do NOT go even one pound past that. better to be a couple below than over. You can usually rent or borrow torque wrenches at parts store. I also decided to just buy extra housing for a few bucks just in case %26amp; that way always had extra. Dont forget once ready to start er up, refill coolant, start engine, run heater for few seconds %26amp; cycle it on %26amp; off, then shut off engine %26amp; check level but make sure either engine cool or checking at coolant resevoir tank (the plastic clear one). Personally I just leave radiator cap off 1st time and not let engine get hot, but only do that if you know what you are doing as not exactly safest way. ummm, little tidbits, bolts are not easy to get to, coolant is poisonous to animals, i have yet to ever overtighten belt but easy to not get tight enough which means battery wont charge good %26amp; can ruin it, make sure metal surfaces are very clean before assembly, not bad idea to test new thermostat in hot water to make sure it moves at right temp (rare to be bad, but sucks if it is), and lastly good luckHow do you change a thermostat on a 2000 Jeep Cherokee? You will also need to bleed out the air that will be trapped in the cooling system or the vehicle will not work correctly..

I'm a little new at car repairs so your help would be appreciated.

It's a 3.1.How do you change the thermostat on a 96 Olds Cutlass Cierra?Investment in a repair manual for your vehicle could save you lots in the long run....such as if you do this job wrong and overheat your engine.....have major leaks....etc. The manual gives pictures, tools you need and expert advise, here you do not know whether the advise is from a professional mechanic or a 16 year old kid.How do you change the thermostat on a 96 Olds Cutlass Cierra? That thermostat is at the base of the lower intake manifold. Pretty challenging to access.

You can follow the pipe from the upper radiator hose down to the base of the manifold, The thermostat is behind where it bolts to the manifold.

All you should have to remove is the air inlet duct. to access the housing.

What is the best way to heat your home in the winter? keep the thermostat 68? or change it when not home to 60?

is it best to use your thermostat at one setting always or change it up and down as you are in and out? What is the best way to heat your home in the winter? keep the thermostat 68? or change it when not home to 60?That depends on your resources.

I personally prefer wood heat; but then, electric heat is much more efficient.

If you're looking to save some $$ however, you should be asking what's the best way to reduce heating costs in winter.

In that case, I recommend Passive Solar Heating.

We make Passive Solar Heaters using plywood, black spray paint, a sheet of plexiglass, some glue, screws, and empty aluminum soda cans. These heaters work excellent for heating rooms of any size - as long as they are mounted in a spot of good, direct sunlight exposure or in any South-Facing window.

On some models, we even place a mini 12volt whisper fan to draw the air out the hole at the top of the panel. (These fans only draw 0.11 amps and are extremely energy efficient)

These heaters can reach temps well over 100 degrees F, in the winter.

We have free plans for D-I-Y on our myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/trinityenergies

They include a step by step construction process with photo-examples of a model we built.

If you have any questions along the way, feel free to message us and ask. :)What is the best way to heat your home in the winter? keep the thermostat 68? or change it when not home to 60?That depends on you!

If you are out most of the day, lowering your thermostat 4-6 degrees will save greatly on your heat bill. If you are in and out all day, it will not pay to setback your temperature. You will be constantly adjusting your thermostat and actually making your furnace work harder. What is the best way to heat your home in the winter? keep the thermostat 68? or change it when not home to 60?Try to utilize a programmable thermostat if you are on a regular schedule. Lower the temp no more than 5 deg.when you are away for 4 or more hours at a time.Lowering it more than that will only make your furnace work harder to reach the higher temp.as everything in your house has to be reheated. Avoid lowering for less than 4 hrs.But if you are away for say a weekend, you can lower it to 60 deg. for that period. What is the best way to heat your home in the winter? keep the thermostat 68? or change it when not home to 60?in all my yrs as a building maint man we have tried every thing

Hi, Ihave a Ford orion with a 1600 CVH engine, And i need to change the thermostat. How hard is it and how do i do it? Thanks.Ford orion thermostat change?piece of cake,2 or three bolts should be undone from the thermo housing which should be located on the top of the engine block, undo the rad pipe first, then take out the bolts,if the housing does not come away then gently prise using a medium screwdriver.once the housing is off ,take out the old stat and replace with new on,make sure it is the Right way round as you will not have any cooling if it is closed all the time, then once you have replaced the part .replace the housing using a liquid sealer .and sortedFord orion thermostat change?you may need to drain the radiator and coolant expansion tank first, otherwise you might find yourself and the engine having a anti-freeze/coolant shower ,it is recommended as good practice to drain then flush the entire cooling system

and refill with new coolant and water after the thermostat has been refitted ,also make sure you get the gasket with the thermostat, they have a habit of going missing from the box

as i have made the mistake of not checking and getting home to find its not there in the box, some are cardboard or rubber or both.

ps:when i say drain and flush the entire cooling system i mean a forward flush with the radiator in the car

that is not including a reverse flush on the radiator

  • How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina?

also where is the thermostat located on a 3.1 Liter engineHow can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? That one is kind of a bear as thermostats go.

It's located in the thermostat housing which is on the back of the lower intake manifold (LH side of engine bay) directly below the throttle body.

Some technicians find it easier to remove the throttle body from the car for better access to the thermostat housing bolts but it's not completely necessary.

There are 2 bolts holding the housing to the manifold The top one is fairly easy but you can barely see the bottom one. Luckily GM was smart enough to slot the hole in the housing for the bottom bolt so you don't have to take it all the way out. Just back it out 3 or 4 turns and the housing will slide up and off the bolt.

Best of Luck! How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? You may be better off to take this to a small shop for this.

If it has the aluminum intake like a lot of cars, likely you will snap the bolts off getting them out. Then, you would need to drill out the broken bolt part and use a tap and then a threadsert to fix it, before you could drive it anywhere. How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? You're probably better off letting a professional change it. How do you change a thermostat on a Chevy Monte Carlo 3.8 liter v-6?

Where is the thermostat housing located? How do you change a thermostat on a Chevy Monte Carlo 3.8 liter v-6?I own a shop, and have owned a few 3.8 V-6 engines. Good engine! Follow the top radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. Remove the hose from the engine, this will be the thermostat housing that you remove the hose from. Two bolts hold this housing in place. You must remove these bolts, and may have to remove the alternator tensioner bracket in order to get to one of the bolts. After the housing is removed, remove the old thermostat, and scrape all the old gasket you can get off the intake and the housing. Clean out the recessed area where the thermostat goes to make sure the new thermostat will sit below the mounting area. Once you have it all ready to go back together, use a spared amount of RTV on the thermostat gasket, and the housing. This is to place the gasket in position, and to hold it there during installation. Once the RTV has dried, and the gasket has stuck in place, you are ready to install the thermostat. Put the bolts through the housing before the RTV has a chance to dry, and the bolts will hold it in place until it dries. On the thermostat or the box it came it, will be a picture or an arrow that shows the correct direction it is to be installed. This is important to the operation of the thermostat. Place the thermostat in the intake, and make sure it sits below the surface down in the slot. You can put just a tiny bit of RTV to keep it down if you wish, but let it dry before you attach the housing. Clean the mounting bolts with a wire brush, and if one or both of the bolts go through the intake, you will have to use a thread sealer (to keep it from leaking) on the bolts. Be careful when you install the bolts to not move the housing back and forth on the intake, as this sometimes will get the thermostat out of position. Tighten the bolts down evenly with your fingers, and then use a socket, extension, and a ratchet to just barely tighten the bolts. It is very important these bolts are tightened evenly, and that the thermostat doesn't get moved when doing this. If the thermostat gets out of position, and you tighten the bolts down, the housing will leak, and when you tighten it down more to stop the leaking, it will break the housing because it is pulling down at an angle. Before you start the job, drain about a gollon of coolant from the radiator drain plug on the drivers side, facing the engine. This plug is hard to get to, and should turn counter clockwise to loosen it, but do keep in mind that some of them do work the other way, so be careful to not break it. Once you have the housing back down, the top radiator hose back on %26amp; tight, you can put the coolant back into the radiator. You may not can get it all back in until the engine has been ran long enough for the top radiatior hose to be hot. This indicates the thermostat is open, and you should be able to get the rest into the radiator, and the cap back on.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!How do you change a thermostat on a Chevy Monte Carlo 3.8 liter v-6?Simply take your VIN (serial number) to any GM dealer's parts department and ask them for a print out of the area in question. They will provide you with a diagram from their automated parts catalog which will show you what you need. It's not a difficult as some would have you believe.

How do you change thermostat on Meriva 54 1.6 petrol 8v?

no the timing gear does not have to be removed this job is a pain in the bum so to speak, what you need is a ratchet 3/8 drive a small extension and a 14 torx socket. There are two torx bolts holding the thermostat together and unfortunately because of the position it is in the bottom bolt is all by touch and feel to find it follow the housing around with your fingers and you'll feel it there at the bottom then put the socket and extension on first holding it in position then attach the ratchet to the extension then take it off. The top bolt is relatively easy to get at. Once removed and you put the new one in put the top bolt half way in then proceed to put the bottom bolt in once again by touch and feel and hope you get it in and you will ya just gotta have a few goes at it and a little patience. You'll get there, i have done this before!!

How do you change the thermostat in a 97 Dodge Intrepid?

The car went from cold to overheating in two blocks. When the heater is blowing hot air, the car is fine, but sometimes the heat stops blowing and cold air starts coming out, causing the car to overheat. I know it needs changed, but can't figure out how to do it.How do you change the thermostat in a 97 Dodge Intrepid?Shaggy's on the right track. You have an air pocket, and/or you're low on anti-freeze. That's the only way you could be overheating within 2 blocks. Even if the thermostat were welded shut it wouldn't do that. The lack of heat from the heater is another symptom that supports this.

    That's not to say that your thermostat isn't ruined by now. Try this. After you replace the thermostat, which is located under the thermostat housing here;

    http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthrea

good luckHow do I change the thermostat in an 1999 Pontiac Grand Am?it should be fairly easy. follow the radiator hose the one on the top. once you found were it connects to the engine, there will be to bolts. undo those and there is your thermostat. you shouldn't need any special tools. make sure you use a new gasket and put the thermostat in there strait. be careful when putting the bolts back in the holes. make sure they thread easy so you don't cross thread. that could be a big problem. one more thing you need to do as soon as you take it apart is clean all the previous gasket off and make sure you are working with a flat surface. before you go and drive somewhere make sure the fluid levels are correct and no leaks.

My 99 Grand Am needs a new thermostat, how hard is it to change?

I am relatively mechanically inclined, I think my 99 Pontiac Grand Am (3.4L V6 Auto) is in need of a new thermostat. I have changed them in the past on (even) older cars, but I want to know if they are hard to change on this car. Does anyone have any experience with this particular car?My 99 Grand Am needs a new thermostat, how hard is it to change?Find a shop manual for your car and look it up. Either check one out from a library, or look it up in your local auto part store.

I don't have specific experience with your car model, and sometimes front-wheel-drive packaging is a little tight and my put things in odd places, but usually it will be in the vicinity of where the radiator hoses meet the block so probably toward the front of the engine.

My condo always feels colder than thermostat says it is. Time to change the thermostat?

I live on the top floor of a 3-story condo and my (programmable) thermostat on average has been reading in the high 60's, low 70's, yet the rooms always feel cooler than the temperature readout. My furnace is brand new but I kept the thermostat that came with the place. The furnace will kick on if I raise the thermostat, but if I keep to a reasonable schedule programmed into the panel, the furnace will never cycle on.My condo always feels colder than thermostat says it is. Time to change the thermostat? No. Buy a room thermometer and see how the results compare to the thermostat. My condo always feels colder than thermostat says it is. Time to change the thermostat?Top floor condo's have heat seep up from the unit downstairs and it could be just enough to keep the room warm so the thermostat doesn't call for heat. Buy a movable thermostat and check the readings. Sometimes it will also not come on if it's only one degree off from the setting. Some thermostats have a variance setting so you can adjust how soon it will kick on if the temp drops 2 or more degrees.

We did change the thermostat but not better.?It is also possible that you have air in the system. This would prevent the heater core from doing it's job. When you replaced the thermostat, did you use one that is set to open at the original factory setting? If not, you may have to change it again. BE SURE THAT YOU USE ONLY GENUINE FORD COOLANT!!!!! Anything else will cause problems on down the road. There is no such thing as %26quot;universal%26quot; coolant. Also, go to a do-it-yourself car wash and clean the engine compartment, especially the space between the radiator and the A/C condenser. This area always collects debris, like leaves and road dirt. The presence of foreign objects here restricts the flow of air around both surfaces. Good Luck!!! If this is a 3.8 liter engine, it is also likely that your head gaskets are bad and need replacing. If this is a 3.0 engine, you are luckier.

My house has separate furnace and air conditioning systems. The second floor thermostat is the older kind that you have to set to either %26quot;Heat%26quot; or %26quot;Cool%26quot; plus dial it to the desired temperature.

How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??

I flushed my radiator about three times until water was clear and then refilled with half and half, coolant/distilled water. I did this because it hadn't been done since I bought the truck ('95 Ford Ranger, 107K miles) from a neighbor two years before, plus the fact that the truck's coolant temp gauge needle was going past the middle mark but not all the way into %26quot;H.%26quot; Afterwards, it was a little better, but it still happened once in a while for long trips on the highway. Just changed the air filter w/ a K%26amp;N filter and strangely things seemed to improve, but the needle still moves a little past the middle. I don't know what else to do. So, I'm wondering about the thermostat...How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??If the engine takes too long to heat up then it probably is a bad thermostat. Watch the temp Gage and see if the temperature is in the proper range when the temperature gets up to the proper operating temp then the thermostat will open up letting the water circulate through the engine. You can tell when this happens as you may be able to hear the thermostat click and followed by a sudden and temporary drop in temperature as the cooler water from the radiator starts going through the engine and the warmer water from the engine goes to the radiator to be cooled by the fan also you may sense a sudden and temporary drop in engine speed when the fan kicks in .How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??thermostats go out often. they are easy enough to change and cheap. is your fan working? with it warming up your fan could have shorted out a while ago and it's just now affecting you temp gage. if it is okay. just change the thermostat. if that doesn't work pay for the diagnosticHow do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??No idea how your gage is calibrated, but, most of the time a %26quot;stat%26quot; will stick open, not shut. That will cause too low of a temp and no heat from the heater. Too hot (in or real close to)the red and that is more apt to be from some other cause, fan, air flow etc.How do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??When your vehicle starts to over heat, check thermostart and when it starts to operate below normal temperaturesHow do I know when to change the thermostat or know when it isn't working??First off what engine do you have? the thermostat should be changed every 2 years. You should have the cooling system pressure checked for leaks.

    On a 97 Lincoln Continental 3.2 valve-auto,how do I change thermostat-and where is it ?

just changed tranny filter %26amp; now radiator gets very hot with no heat ? where is %26amp; how do I change thermostat, just wondering if tranny had anything to do with radiator over heating w/ no heat ??On a 97 Lincoln Continental 3.2 valve-auto,how do I change thermostat-and where is it ?you know I was told that those thermostats for the 32 V engines are not in the block. So you need to make a call or a trip to your L/M dealer for some facts. On a 97 Lincoln Continental 3.2 valve-auto,how do I change thermostat-and where is it ?Follow the top radiator hose back to the block, that's where the thermostat is....BUT since you already don't know where it is, best leave changing it to a qualified individual...And no, the tranny probably dosen't have anything to do with your problem.

How do I change the thermostat on an 01 Cavalier?

I dont where or how to change it nor how much it will cost me.How do I change the thermostat on an 01 Cavalier?I have an 01 Cavalier (piece of crap!) I went to Inner Auto Parts website to get price quotes for parts

I hope it helpsHow do I change the thermostat on an 01 Cavalier? It's only a matter of a couple of bolts holding the thermo cover onto the motor and removing the upper rad hose at the motor. There will be coolant spillage and a possibility of an air bubble after filling coolant up. These are pretty cheap to get someone else to do it, around a hundred or so.

How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?

All of my fluids are topped off, and the defrost works and the a/c works.. but the heat doesn't work. Is that the thermostat? How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?seems to me like you have an in-line valve to your heater core that is closed. look under the hood, find the lines that go to the heater core and see if there is a valve, the cable from inside may have come loose. there also might be a cable to the duct that has come loose under the dash area, good luckHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Depends what kind of car...generally they are very easy to replace. How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car? It's easy in mineHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Could be, but could be a number of other things too. If your car is overheating then it is most likely the thermostat. It's very easy to replace. Takes about 10 minutes depending on where it's located. How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?depends on the car if its easily acsesable a piece of cake. unless you do like i did once and used the wrong bolt and broke it part way down. then you need a drill and tap(ps where the world did spell check go?)How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?It is very basic, and yes, even you can do it ! Wait until after the engine has cooled. Toward the front of the engine, right on top,( in most cases) there is a big hose. It goes from the radiator to a metal thing that looks like a small softball. There are 2 bolts that hold it down. Unbolt them and the thermostat is right there for you to pull out and replace. Make sure it goes in right-side-up. Take carefull notice as to how it looks before you remove it. Make sure, also, that the gasket is still complete. Good Luck !How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?Probably not if the defrosters work. Sounds more like the cable that switches between heat,A/C,etc.Or possibly a vaccuum line is off,(change your radio lately?).How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?your thermostat allows the engine to maintain it's operating temperature.

If the thermostat is locked open (broken) the engine would have a hard time heating up. Your temperature gauge would stay in the %26quot;blue zone%26quot; and the heater/defroster would blow out cool to warm air.

If the thermostat is locked closed (broken) the engine would overheat. Your termperature gauge would be in the red zone soon after getting on the highway. Your Heater would be producing lots of hot air.

So if both your defrost and heater settings are producing just warm air and your temperature gauge stays in the cold/warm zone, it's probably your thermostat.

If the defrost pours out hot air, but the heater does not (they use the same source for heat, the heater core) then you have a broken or damaged flap in the dash that is not allowing the hot air to go through the heater ducts.

To replace your thermostat, go to your local automotive store and pick up a repair manual. It will walk you thru the steps to replace the thermostat. It is usually located in the top front of the engine, held on with two bolts. You may have to drain your radiator to make this repair. The antifreeze is resuable, so don't throw it away unless it's really cloudy, then recyle it.How hard is it to change the thermostat on your car?your thermostat has nothing to do with heated ventalation it mearly controls the flow of coolent from the radiotor to the block the problem you are stating is a heater core and its most probably blocked or just jacked up so to fix this you will have to take it out and either flush a stream of water or get a new one which might be cheap or most likely cost you an arm and a legHow hard is it to change the thermostat on your car? It's not hard, but the thermostat controls the temperature of the engine not the operation of the heater? Good Luck!!~:)=

Polo overheats despite change of thermostat

The coolant level is correct. The thermostat has been changed. the car boils over after being driven a few miles. What could be the reason.Polo overheats despite change of thermostatMost likely the waterpump impeller has came loose from the shaft. When it spins slow it grabs onto the shaft. When it turns fast the impeller slips on the shaft.

First thing to do is once is gets hot, after ripping around the block. Get out and pop your hood. Check to see if coolant is flowing back to the coolant bottle from the little hose connected to the side of it. It not then let it cool down and...

Under the intake on the passenger side is the thermostat housing. Two 10 mm bolts hold it onto the block. If your next to the alternator, your in the right spot. Take those out and pull out the thermostat. Stick your finger in the hole and to the left and feel the waterpump. You shouldn't be able to move the waterpump impeller. If you can spin it with you finger, then it's bad.Polo overheats despite change of thermostatThermostat is not opening. BECAUSE the way you refilled the coolant was wrong. You have air on one side of the thermostat(and air never gets hot enough) to open the thermostat...so you overheat.

To correct. Let it cool. Pull off lower rad hose and drain block and rad of coolant(again) Now put on lower rad hose to rad and the thermostat housing to the block. Pull off top rad hose and pour coolant down the hose pipe into the motor and fill it up. When full, reconnect rad hose to top of rad. Now fill the rad and the overflow container. Now coolant is on %26quot;both%26quot; sides of the closed thermostat.(no air pocket). Car should work fine.//Note: this will also be the reason why the fan was not coming on either,,,because fluid was not flowing past the temperature sensor for the fan.

The Most Likely reasonPolo overheats despite change of thermostatThis could be bad news. It could be a blown head gasket. I had one on a Datsun pickup truck. The engine heated up very quickly. I repaired it myself. When I removed the head I had expected the head gasket blown to bits and pieces, but all I could find was a tear from one of the head bolts toward the cylinder. I guess because of the pressure in the system the water quickly ran into the cylinder.

So one test to make to prove that the head gasket is blown is to take out the spark plugs and then crank the engine to see of any water is coming out of any of the spark plug openings.

Please, don't assume that I am correct with this, don't take off the head until you have evidence that what I suggest is indeed true. LOL Polo overheats despite change of thermostatis the coolant system a pressurized system? if it is and you have opened it it will continue to overheat until you bleed the system

If i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works?

If i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works? Can i cause it not to work properly to cool air or such thing? If i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works?if you mess the wiring up it will not turn onIf i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works? No, there's basically on and off. It just may tell your AC when to turn on and off differently.

Honestly, I'm just guessing on this, but I changed my thermostat and everything was fine. It's about the only thing I've done myself in my home that's been easy and has gone well.If i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works?if you hook it up wrong it'll change the way the ac works. it won't work at all. but no if you hook it up correctly it's basically just an automatic on/off switch. it doesn't affect the way the a/c system actually works. If i change my Air conditioning thermostat at home, can this effect the way the AC works?cakes is right all the t-state is a switch if not cooling properly look at filter and how dirty your coils are inside and out the get a tech to look at charge

How much to maintenance a steam boiler and change it to digital thermostat?

I need to bleed my system from dirty water and oil build up. Also, change the thermastat to a digital thermostat. I got quoted $240 + tax to do the work. They are including in the quote adding a cleaner to system and informational tips on how to maintenance the system in the future. Only weird thing, is he is quoting this price over the phone before he even comes in to look at the type of system and work assessment. Is that normal for this kind of maintenance? Is this a fair quote? How much to maintenance a steam boiler and change it to digital thermostat?A plain jane digital thermostat costs 40 dollars. A programmable stat can cost up to 100 dollars and up. If you have an oil fired steam boiler, that is a very good deal. If it's gas, then that number is right in the ballpark. Steam heat is alot different than ordinary radiant heat. Companies pay top dollar for qualified techs that can service steam boilers because they are so scarce. If the company you are hiring to service your heater is reputable, then I would go with them. You may find a contractor to do it for less, but either way, you're looking at paying a solid $200. My best suggestion, don't go with the big name company. They will charge the most. Ask around, see who else has steam heat, and see who they use. The %26quot;little guy%26quot; will often give you more bang for less buck. How much to maintenance a steam boiler and change it to digital thermostat?stats are easy to price. as for maintaining and cleaning a boiler, its a pretty much set price for a residential application. the quote seems quite fair and dont be afraid to ask questions. no question is too dumb, especially when you re paying for his knowledge. How much to maintenance a steam boiler and change it to digital thermostat?I live in Delaware and our labor rates where I work are 75.00 per hour. If they are supplying the programmable thermostat , then there is another75 to 100.oo. To me it sounds like a fair price if the work done is suitable
