How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina?

also where is the thermostat located on a 3.1 Liter engineHow can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? That one is kind of a bear as thermostats go.

It's located in the thermostat housing which is on the back of the lower intake manifold (LH side of engine bay) directly below the throttle body.

Some technicians find it easier to remove the throttle body from the car for better access to the thermostat housing bolts but it's not completely necessary.

There are 2 bolts holding the housing to the manifold The top one is fairly easy but you can barely see the bottom one. Luckily GM was smart enough to slot the hole in the housing for the bottom bolt so you don't have to take it all the way out. Just back it out 3 or 4 turns and the housing will slide up and off the bolt.

Best of Luck! How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? You may be better off to take this to a small shop for this.

If it has the aluminum intake like a lot of cars, likely you will snap the bolts off getting them out. Then, you would need to drill out the broken bolt part and use a tap and then a threadsert to fix it, before you could drive it anywhere. How can i change a thermostat on a 1995 Chevy Lumina? You're probably better off letting a professional change it. Besides, do you have symptons of a problem? Are you one of those people that have a problem with their car, bring it in for a %26quot;tune up%26quot;, so you get new plugs and wires, then call back later bitching your problem wasn't solved... the one that you didn't mention to begin with???
