'97 Mercury Voyager van--changed thermostat for $130 but still running hot and blowing cold air?

Heater put out heat for one day after changing the thermostat. Any ideas? Young workmate is just a janitor with a baby and needs the car to get to work. Also make sure the system has been bled correctly. Many cars have a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing or in one of the coolant lines.
